Be Part OF Something Bigger.

I came to the county in 2016 because of the great benefits and retirement plan. There are not many jobs today that can provide financial stability, include a guaranteed pension and also offers a additional private retirement fund. What keeps me at my job is the support I get from my supervisor and administrator. There is never a time I don’t feel like I can call for advice, safety reasons or just to walk through my cases if I am struggling.

I originally came to Monroe County 10 years ago for the great work-life balance and top-notch benefits.  I was confident and still remain confident that I will not be expected to work long hours and that I can have a great home life in addition to a job and career that I love at the County. I feel that the benefits such as health insurance, vacation and sick time, and pension have set up me and my family for future success.

The county job is the best job I have ever had because it is community service and plays a part in the bigger picture. I have love for the parks, love for the community and it is making an impact for individuals. I really enjoy the comradery and the common goal of keeping the parks protected and clean.

From the moment I joined the team, I have been welcomed with open arms and made to feel like I have been a part of the team for years. The camaraderie and support among my colleagues is truly remarkable and has made my transition into this new role seamless.

The people that I have met, and the knowledge and experience that I have received from being here are remarkable. I would definitely recommend Monroe County as one of the best places to make a career for yourself.

I started with Monroe County following in my family and friends’ footsteps and it was a step in the right direction for me. It was a great way to officially start my career in the field I am passionate about. I am learning new things and gaining experience every day. Coming out of college and being thrown into the world with the pressure of getting what everyone calls a “real job” can be a lot. I was thankful to have found my “real job” in DES, where I feel accomplished in the work that I am doing and am even confident that I can continue school! I will forever be thankful for DES giving me lifelong companions and a sense of belonging. Every day is a great day to be a part of DES!

The best part of the job is the wide variety of work that we get to do throughout the year. We handle all aspects of road maintenance so you never really know what you’ll be working on next. One day I’m on the side of the road in a 35-foot aerial truck cutting trees and the next day I’m 20 feet below the road checking storm pipes. We work on a lot of fascinating jobs using a massive variety of trucks, heavy equipment, and specialized tools so it’s almost impossible to get bored.

My time working for the county has been very fulfilling. I feel as though I get to have a direct hand in improving the local environment and therefore assist with keeping Monroe County a place that I would like to live. On top of the personal fulfillment I receive from my work, the work place comradery is second to none. The County culture is very cooperative and supportive.
